On October 2, 2024, the students and teachers of the “NORDBAT-2” school in Vareš organized and implemented a workshop on the occasion of celebrating the International Coffee Day. The goal of celebrating this date was socializing and sharing experiences.
Studies show that an increasing number of young people and children are antisocial, that they do not play together, that they live in a virtual world with their mobile phones and that there is less and less direct “face-to-face” communication. We used this day to take the students away from their cell phones at least a little while having coffee and to engage them in conversation. The students are, of course, familiar with the history of the discovery and distribution of coffee, and how important it is in our lives today. We also informed them that in Bosnia and Herzegovina we have several types of coffee (from “dočekuša” to “sikteruša”). Students and teachers reacted positively to the workshop and to the way of drawing attention to the need for lively conversation, exchange of ideas and experiences, and to agree on subsequent activities and projects. Five students and teacher Amina Pajt Sezairi participated in the preparation of the activity, while about 170 school students joined the coffee tasting itself.
This activity was implemented within the project “Reconciliation Through Dialogue and Joint Activities in the Local Communities in BiH”, which is financially supported by the German Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
