Twenty students from two schools in Mrkonjić Grad, Republika Srpska (the High School Center and the Gymnasium), took part in the local activity titled “The Bench”. They carried out an installation/assembly and finishing works on the old bench in the schoolyard on 15 September 2023. The bench is used by students of both schools during short and long breaks. The bench was worn and without boards, and it was also dangerous because there were remnants of the old structure, screws and iron supports. The students suggested that the bench be restored, both for safety and aesthetic reasons. They independently measured, calculated the necessary materials, and installed and painted the elements. Tools from the school workshop were used, and the activity was partially integrated into the lessons. Besides 20 students who were involved in the implementation, the bench will be used by all students of both schools – about 400 of them.
This local activity was implemented within the project “Reconcilliation Through Dialogue and Joint Activities in the Local Communities in BiH ” which is financially supported by the German Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
